Yonie Moreno spoke on the Iranian regime, arguing that the picture that is portrayed of Iran in Venezuela was a false one. The image of Iran as a revolutionary state is false. In fact, the Mullahs hijacked the revolution of 1979 and the regime in Iran is a religious dictatorship by the Mullahs and the bourgeois. The overthrow of the Shah, who was an agent of imperialism, was in fact carried out by the workers and particularly the oil workers movement. The leadership of the working class at the time of the revolution was in the hands of the communist party whose leaders followed the line of the Soviet bureaucracy. This led led the revolution to disaster. They defended the need for Iran to make a popular front with Khomeini and the mullahs and subordinate workers' struggles to the Islamic fundamentalists. The clerics led the bourgeois counterrevolution and suppressed the left, especially the Communist party. Since then the clerical regime has used a bourgeois anti-imperialist rhetoric to unite the masses around it. But its pro-bourgeois politics and denial of democratic rights, such as strike, demonstration and association, are increasingly hitting the workers and youth, who are attempting to recapture the revolutionary traditions of the socialist revolution that was betrayed in 1979.
