Hands Off Venezela Britain, National Steering Committee

Dear Ambassador,

We would like to express our outrage at the killing of two workers by the Anzoategui Police in Venezuela. The workers were killed during an attempt to evict them from the Mitsubishi Motor Company plant which they had been occupying since January 22.

This was a brutal and unjustified killing of unarmed workers who were only trying to defend their jobs and livelihoods and who are part of the Bolivarian revolutionary movement.

We demand that:

- there should be no more violence against the workers of MMC or any other group of workers in struggle, and that all legal action against them should be suspended.

- that there should be a full enquiry to find out who gave the order to fire on unarmed workers and that those responsible be brought to justice.

- that the governor of Anzoategui Tarek William Saab and the national government of President Hugo Chávez must make a public statement on this incident.

Long live the Bolivarian Revolution

Long live the workers' struggle

letter of solidarity

We have been informed by our comrades of CMR (Corriente Marxista Revolucionaria, Venezuelan section of the IMT), that the regional police of Anzoategui  state fired at the workers of the Mitsubishi factory, with live ammunition, killing two workers (Pedro Suarez from the Mitsubishi factory and José Marcano from Macusa factory) and wounding several more.

We strongly condemn this new brutal attack against the working class, which is not the first and certainly won't be the last,. As long as the old capitalist state apparatus and the economic power of the oligarchy stay intact. This it is nothing more than a warning of what will happen if the bourgeoisie came to power again.

The decision of The Bolivarian governor of Anzoategui, Tarek William Saab, of suspending all police officers involved in the crime and handing them over to the prosecutor's office, is correct and we welcome it, but it's only a step in the right direction, we demand that not only those who fired the weapons should be involved, but also those who gave the orders!

We emphasize that the only way to prevent the occurrence of such crimes, is the destruction of the remnants of the bourgeoisie state and the expropriation of the capitalist's property.

At last we want to send our condolences to the families of the two workers and their comrades and friends, and to tell them that the only way to revenge is to carry on the fight for the socialist transformation of society!

Long live the fight of the Venezuelan working class for socialism!

Down with the bourgeoisie state!

Down with the killers of the workers!

From Russia

We would like to express our outrage at the killing of two workers by the Anzoategui Police in Venezuela. The workers were killed during an attempt to evict them from the Mitsubishi Motor Company plant which they had been occupying since January 20.

This was a brutal and unjustified killing of unarmed workers who were only trying to defend their jobs and livelihoods and who are part of the Bolivarian revolutionary movement. Their only crime was to defend their co-workers, subcontracted to Induservi, 135 of whom had been made redundant in violation of the decree against mass lay-offs dictated by the Bolivarian government of president Hugo Chávez.

We demand that:

     * there should be no more violence against the workers of MMC or        any other group of workers in struggle, and that all legal        action against them should be suspended.
     * that there should be a full enquiry to find out who gave the        order to fire on unarmed workers and that those responsible be        brought to justice.
     * that the governor of Anzoategui Tarek William Saab and the        national government of President Hugo Chávez must make a public        statement on this incident.

Long live the Bolivarian Revolution
Long live the workers' struggle

February 5, 2009

Dear Regional Governor Saab and General Secretary Vega:

I am writing in response to the inexcusable, pre-meditated murders of two workers at the Mitsubishi (MMC) plant on Thursday, January 29, 2009, in Anzoategui, Venezuela.

The three judges, Henry Gabián Dietrich, Lourdes Villarroel and Diana Vásquez, who issued an order of eviction, along with the president of the Mining and Energy Commission of the National Assembly, Angel Rodriguez, and Regional Governor Tarek William Saab are all entirely culpable and prosecutable for the planned executions.

These judges, governor, and president failed to heed President Chávez's declaration in November that any company in violation of workers' rights should be taken over and nationalized. This is *exactly* what the workers of MMC and Vivex did last Thursday, and now, because of the intrasigence of these public and private officials, two people's lives have been needlessly, carelessly ended.

The workers at the MMC plant had been occupying the premises since January 20 after a decision was taken by a mass meeting of the workers. The reason for the occupation was to demand the reinstatement of 135 workers, working for the subcontractor Induservi, who had lost their jobs after MMC rescinded the contract with Induservi. These firings violate the decree on labor stability passed by President Chavez to defend workers' rights.

As a consequence of the inexcusable and reprehensible actions of these forementioned officials there will have to be consequences. I am in solidarity with the demands for the commander of PoliAnzoategui and the general secretary of the Anzoategui governorship to resign immediately.

The three judges, Henry Gabián Dietrich, Lourdes Villarroel and Diana Vásquez, who issued an order of eviction, along with the president of the Mining and Energy Commission of the National Assembly, Angel Rodriguez, and Regional Governor Tarek William Saab, along with any other judges and directors responsible for the eviction, must be tried on the charges of the two murders.

The still-unaddressed demands of the MMC and Vivex workers must be approved and fulfilled because events around the worker occupation and nationalization of the factories are obviously unresolved. You can prevent further atrocities and punishable crimes *now* if you act. This is an unignorable situation.

SALUDOS

Envio condolências a todos, e desejo força a vocês!!

Dear Comrades

On behalf of the Federation of Workers' Councils and Unions in Iraq, FWCUI.

We have received the news of killing the workers in Anzoátegui, with a deep grave and rage, as crime against the whole humanity , and against the humanitarian norms. The brutal capitalists and their slaves from police and military forces, are cheapening the man blood in order to keep the private property.

We are strongly denouncing this barbaric aggression against the disarmed workers, calling for the authorities to punish the doers immediately.

The authorities in Venezuela, which is announcing it self as a socialist, responsible to provide the security to the workers, and preventing the brutes from shedding more blood of the innocent workers.

We deeply condolence the families of the victims and their friends, We announce our support to the workers in the occupied factories, Long live the workers movement towards the freedom and equality.

Viva a Revolução Venezuelana! E a luta pelo socialismo!

Desde Brasil

Companheiros,

The Greek committee of “Hands Off Venezuela!” campaign

Dear Ambassador,

I write to you on behalf of the Hands off Venezuela campaign in Greece. We want to condemn the attack on the two workers, Pedro Suarez and José Marcan who fighting to save their work and for the victory of the Bolivarian revolution.

We have received the news of killing the workers in Anzoátegui, with a deep sadness and rage, as a crime against the whole humanity, and against the humane norms. The brutal capitalists and their slaves from police and military force are wasting human blood in order to keep private property.

From Austria

In the last days there were several meetings to commemorate the events from February 1934 in Austria, where the police, army and fascist gangs fired on workers and in the end smashed the organised labour movement. The antifascist resistance of the vanguard of the labour movement is still a very important point of reference for all socialists in Austria.

In these meetings we presented the struggle of the Mitsubishi workers having occupied their factory and where two workers have been shot by police officers.

Many activists have signed the following appeal:

"We would like to express our outrage at the killing of Jose Marcano and Pedro Suarez by the police, during the attempt to evict the Mitsusbishi (MMC) workers who were occupying the plant in Barcelona, Venezuela.

We welcome the speedy action of the authorities in bringing charges against the police officers involved.

We ask that all those responsible for the killings be brought to justice including the general secretary of the governorship, the judges who gave the orders, and the management of MMC.

We ask that the just demands of the MMC workers be granted, including the reinstatement of the 135 illegally sacked Induserve workers.

Dear brothers and sisters in Hands off Venezuela Campaign,

We are writing to express our outrage about the killing of two workers in the occupied Mitsubishi factory. We believe that the activities of the HoV Campaign is the most powerful instrument to expose the vicious counter-revolution of the Venezuelan oligarchy on an international scale and foil the media silence about these criminal acts. Unfortunately we don’t have HoV here, in Iran, so w can only express our outrage via emails to HoV and demand punishment of those responsible for the attacks on workers. These assaults, conducted and organized by the counter-revolution, are to be condemned and need the decisive reaction of President Hugo Chavez.

Fulfill the Demands of Mitsubishi (MMC) Workers!
Purge the Counter-revolutionary Forces from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela!
Defend and Forward the Bolivarian Socialist Revolution!

In the afternoon of Thursday, January 29, two workers were killed by the police in the state of Anzoategui, Venezuela. The workers killed are Pedro Suarez from the Mitsubishi (MMC) factory and José Marcano from nearby auto parts factory Macusa. They were killed when the regional police of Anzoategui was attempting to evict hundreds of workers who have been occupying the Mitsubishi factory. The workers of Mitsubishi have occupied the plant since the 20th of January because 135 contract workers were laid off. In a mass meeting where 893 workers were present, 863 voted in favour of occupying the Mitsubishi factory. They also stated that nationalization is the only solution to the conflicts in the factories of Vivex, Franelas Gotcha, Industria Nacional de Artículos de Ferretería (INAF) and Acerven. The decision to evict these workers came from three judges; Henry Gabián Dietrich, Lourdes Villarroel and Diana Vásquez. Those judges ignored the fact that MMC has violated the law because of their mass lay-off of workers.

Sadly, this happened in the time of Bolivarian Revolution and this was not the first repression against workers in the Bolivarian Republic. Fundimeca workers (air conditioner factory) in Valencia, Alpina di Villa de Cura workers, Sidor workers (steel factory) in Puerto Ordaz or fuel workers in front of Venezuelan Fuel Corporation Dairy Story office in Anzoategui have experienced repressions by the police who were instructed by corrupt judges.

We welcome the development of the MMC case. Among others is the six police officers who were involved in the killing of the two workers have been arrested and several commissions were establish to deal this matter. Also the decision by the Anzoategui governor, Tarek William Saab, to temporary relieve two judges who were involved in the incident. Those judges were also summoned by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile the Venezuela National Assembly is also going to investigate the death of the MMC workers. The President of Energy and Mining Commission has met with the President of Human Rights Sub Commission and they have been discussing the necessity to establish a High Commission regarding this issue that will be lead by the Venezuelan Vice President, Ministry of Work, Anzoategui Governor and the management of the Mitsubishi factory. President Chavez himself has stated that the Government “regrets what happened in the factory in the state of Anzoategui…to avoid such police abuses I ask the governors and mayors to carry out a process of purification of the police bodies.“

For us the Indonesian people, we have experienced ourselves the tragic consequence of believing that the pro-working class and anti-working class elements can co-exist in the State. The result for that belief is the destruction of the people’s power itself in 1965. Around 3 million people were slaughtered, hundreds of thousand were imprisoned without trial, and thousands of people were in exile until now. The Working People Association and the progressive workers movements in Indonesia are following with close attention the clash that has caused the life of two Mitsubishi workers in Venezuela. The experience of workers struggle to control factory and production has now become an important lesson amongst the working class in Indonesia and it has become an alternative view for the global capitalism crisis. We, the Working People Association, demand the following:

  1. President Chavez and the Government of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela must fulfill the demands of the MMC’s workers.
  2. President Chavez and the Government of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela must take a firm step to investigate this case, not only the police who were directly responsible but also those who gave the order.
  3. President Chavez and the Government of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela must immediately purge all the counterrevolutionary forces that are embedded in the Venezuelan State apparatus.

The victory of the Venezuelan people will be achieved through their unity and unwavering march toward the Bolivarian Socialist Revolution. Move toward the unity of workers of the world to smash the dying capitalism!

Local congress of the Left Youth in Berlin adopts resolution on solidarity with the workers at MMC

On February 21st the local congress in Berlin of the youth organisation of Die Linke, Linksjugend ['solid] took place. Besides important political discussions on the orientation of the organisation in the coming mobilisations against the effects of the world economic crises, the congress voted in favour of a resolution in solidarity with the workers of the occupied Mitsubishi factory and the bolivarian revolution.

The Berlin organisation of Linksjugend ['solid] decides unanimously the following: We want to express our outrage about the murder Jose Marcano and Pedro Suarez by the police during the attempt to evict the Mitsubishi factory (MMC) in Barcelona, Venezuela. We appreciate the quick decision of the authorities to bring in an action against the involved police officers. We demand that all persons responsible for these murders are brought to justice, including the general secretary of the governor, the judges responsible for the orders and the management of MMC. We claim that all demands of the workers are fullfilled, including the reemployment of the 135 illegally sacked workers of Induserve.

In solidarity with the bolivarian revolution and the struggle of the workers of MMC.

From Sweden

In solidarity with our comrades in Venezuela!

  • there should be no more violence against the workers of Mitsubishi Motor Company or any other group of workers in struggle, and that all legal action against them should be suspended.
  • that there should be a full enquiry to find out who gave the order to fire on unarmed workers and that those responsible be brought to justice.

Long live the Bolivarian Revolution

From Britain

Dear Brothers & Sisters

The Latin American workers have been at the forefront of the occupied factories movement for which we salute you.

We recognise the importance of your decision to occupy the plant. As the cold winds of economic recession blow through the US and Europe your example is a point of reference for workers in struggle everywhere.

Our members are shocked and appalled to hear of your treatment at the hands of the company and the actions of the anti-riot police unit sent to evict you.

We were disgusted to learn that the eviction order had been backed by the judges in spite of the violation of the Presidential decree on labour stability by the company.

We are saddened that your colleagues were killed in an act of brutality that was wholly unjustified. We are inspired by your will to fight on in the face of further attacks.

We have written to the President and the State Governor to demand that those responsible are brought to justice and to demand their resignations.

We declare our complete solidarity with your struggle and will be calling on the authorities that your demands are met.
