Pakistan: Merck Factory Workers in Quetta on Hunger Strike till Death

Hunger strike till death of 5 workers started on July 22, 2010. Call for urgent help for camp, in front of Merck Serono Factory Gate, 7 Jail Road, Quetta.

Respected Sir,

We wish to draw your kind attention towards our serious issue which has become now as a ‘life and death issue’, calling for voices to raise against injustice on humanitarian grounds.

The brief History and background of our issue is that we, 265 employees of Merck marker were illegally terminated some 14 months back. The reason was ‘Association and Union formation’ according to the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Article 17 and IRA 2008. The main objective of union Formation was to resolve our genuine issues peacefully in a civilized way and to protect our rights.

We protested peacefully against this injustice and illegal termination for one and a half year. However nothing good came out for the restoration of 265 employees.

Please visit our website for full details of our peaceful protest and rallies.

Their lives are at stake and their Physical Survival is in great danger. This is a life threatening situation that may turn into full blown crises. So, it needs Urgent attention.

In this situation, we request you all to:

- Help us in our peaceful and just struggle for the restoration of 265 illegally terminated employees of Merck Marker, Quetta, on humanitarian grounds.

- We also request you to stress and motivate Merck management and Govt to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
