Message of Solidarity from FRETECO in Venezuela for the Republic Workers

In English:

To the workers of Republic Windows and Doors:

Greetings from Venezuela on part of the FRETECO (Revolutionary Front of Occupied Factories) and from the UNT (National Union of Workers) of Anzoátegui state.

Messages of Solidarity for the Republic Workers in ChicagoFirst and foremost, we want to let you know, that your struggle is our struggle. At the present moment, the decaying Capitalist system is attacking workers on all fronts. However, in moments such as the one that you are living through, a decisive question is posed; Who is the real power in the factory? The workers or the boss?  In Venezuela we had various factory occupations, where this question was posed.

The present U.S. Government has socialized on a massive scale the losses and privatized the benefits. They spent 700 billion dollars to rescue the irresponsable bosses and bankers. However, they did not do the same with the thousands of families who have lost their houses as a product of the loans. In the case of Republic Windows and Doors, if the boss can't pay the workers their wages, then the plant, the machinery and the tools belong to the workers.

In Venezuela, we have had different experiences with factories under workers control. In the case of Inveval, the factory was occupied by the workers 5 years ago and was nationalized under the conception of “co-gestion” (51% of the stocks owned by the state, 49% by the workers) and under the form of a cooperative. However, from a class point of view, as workers we do not want to be stock-holders nor co-operativists. Therefore, the workers took the decision to dissolve the co-operative and build a factory committee, where the fundamental decisions of the firm are being decided democratically, by elected delegates and with the right to re-call.

This year in the discussions in the Factory Comittee, we took the decision to build our own trade-union. We have discussed that the trade-union and the Factory Comitee are not counter-posed to each other but that they complement each other permanently. The trade union is the one which organize and defend the interest of the workers and Factory Comitteee is the one that take the control in the factory, on part of the workers. It is the policy that we defend in all the factories, until the working class's decisive take-over of the state.

This is the model that we have put forward in all the factories that are united in FRETECO. These include: The t-shirt producing Gotcha (occupied since 22 september, by its female workers), INAF (occupied for two years and functioning under workers auto-management, Sideroca (nationalized by the government) and Ketchup-produer Caisa.

At this moment, we are in the vanguard of the struggle in Vivex (producing wind screens for the car industry). This factory has been occupied by the workers who are demanding nationalization, in order to maintain their employment. The workers of the car-producing sector (Mitsubishi, Hiunday) are preparing an assembly to discuss whether to go on strike in solidarity with the Vivex workers. The proposal of workers' control has been discussed with workers in other factories and with militants of the PSUV  (Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela), of which we form part.

If the government is capeable of giving bail-outs to millionaries, in order to save their companies, then they should also be able to nationalize  Republic Windows and Doors under workers control! An attack against one, is an attack against all workers in the world!

Next year will be crucial for the unity of the world workers' movement. In the first half of the year, we will be celebrating the Latin American encounter of occupied factories, in which we hope you will take part and give us an account of your struggle, together with workers from Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay...We need to confirm the date.

For the nationalization of REPUBLIC WINDOWS AND DOORS under workers control!

Signed,

Message of Solidarity from Spain for the Republic Workers

In English:

Dear comrades:

We heard about your struggle by reading marxist.com and the website of the Workers International League. We are shipbuilding workers in Ferrol, the main city in a shipbuilding area in northwest Spain. More than 4,000 people work in the shipyard Navantia, the largest shipyard in Spain. There were 14,000 shipbuilding workers fifteen years ago. Thousands of jobs have been lost. We are also militant tradeunionists of the CC.OO. (Workers Commissions), the largest Spanish union.

You and us, and the workers all over the world, are facing the same attacks: casual jobs, lower wages, benefits cuts, redundancies, closures, etc. The rich are getting richer, and the workers are getting poorer. Once again, it is clear than the struggle is the only way for us to defend our class interests, because if you don't fight, you always lose. But the working class must organise and fight at the same level as the bosses. So, workers need to strengthen our international links in order to stop the bosses' offensive and get our socialist goal. Keep the fight on.

Yours in solidarity,

Xaquín García, Javier Losada, Carmen Sixto and Vicente Ferrer
