Pedram Nasrollahi, a Kurdish labour activist, has been freed from Sanandaj's central prison. Pedram was released after many obstacles and objections put up by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran were overcome by activists of the Pedram Nasrollahi and Borhan Saidi Defence Committee (PNBSDC). One of the obstacles that the authorities in Sanandaj, the capital of the Iranian province of Kurdistan, thought up was a bail of 200,000,000 rials ($20,247; £13,800; €15,162).

On Monday, April 6 2009, Pedram was greeted by his family, Sanandaj labour activists and their families, and members of PNBSDC. A garland was placed around Pedram’s neck and sweets were distributed among those gathered to greet him on his release.

Pedram Nasrollahi and fellow Kurdish labour activists Borhan Saidi and Salam Ghaderi were recently arrested for the 'crime' of defending workers' rights, attending workers' meetings and not caving in to the Iranian regime's threats.

Iranian Workers' Solidarity Network defends the rights of these activists to carry on their struggle for basic labour rights and calls for their immediate and unconditional release. While Pedram has been set free Borhan Saidi and Salam Ghaderi, as well as many other labour activists throughout Iran, are languishing in jail. IWSN will continue to campaign for the release of all labour activists from prison.
