South Africa is currently experiencing one of its worst energy crises in its history. Rolling blackouts have become part of daily life because Eskom, the country’s energy supplier, is battling to keep the lights on.
In stormy times, correct orientation is necessary. This is exactly the function that the annual national congress of Der Funke, the German section of the International Marxist Tendency (IMT), serves for the local groups of the IMT all over Germany. More than 100 comrades took part in the highest body of the German section of the IMT in Berlin from 24 to 26 March. The focus was on two documents that were discussed and adopted: “German Perspectives”, our analysis of the forthcoming convulsions and class struggles in Germany; and “Building the Organisation”, i.e. the concrete tasks arising from the perspectives for our tendency.

53-й съезд CGT (Всеобщая конфедерация труда), состоявшийся в конце марта, стал поворотным моментом в истории этой профсоюзной конфедерации. 942 делегата были разделены на левое и правое крыло, которые конфликтовали в течение четырех дней. Прежде всего, левое крыло оказалось сильнее и наступательнее, чем когда-либо, хотя правому крылу удалось сохранить контроль над руководством и назначить одного из своих членов, Софи Бине, генеральным секретарем.

Le 53e Congrès de la CGT, qui s’est tenu fin mars, marque un tournant dans l’histoire de cette confédération. Les 942 délégués étaient polarisés entre une aile gauche et une aile droite qui se sont affrontées pendant quatre jours. Surtout, l’aile gauche y est apparue plus forte et plus offensive que jamais, même si l’aile droite est parvenue à conserver le contrôle de la direction et à placer l’une des siennes, Sophie Binet, au poste de secrétaire générale.
Am Dienstag, den 28. März, fand ein weiterer Aktionstag statt, gegen die faule und verkommene Macron-Regierung, die letzte Woche eine Erhöhung des Renteneintrittsalters durchgesetzt hatte. Nach wie vor bleibt der Kampf stark, wie die Millionen Menschen auf den Straßen beweisen. Für einen Sieg der Arbeiter und der Jugend in diesem Kampf gegen Macron, werden die alten, bankrotten Methoden der Gewerkschaftsführung nicht ausreichen.
