We recently received news of the release of Abed Tavancheh and Yashar Qajar from Evin prison in Tehran. Although they have not been released unconditionally, and their families have had to pay substantial amounts of money as bail, we nevertheless consider this a big victory for all student activists. In addition, we believe that a victory for one section of the mass movement opens up the arena for further and wider struggles by all other social movements.

Their release has once again shown that international solidarity shown by youth and labour activists from many countries is a crucial factor in securing the release of political activists from the clutches of Islamic Republic. Yashar Qajar and Abed Tavancheh are free. The struggle continues to free all political prisoners in Iran!
