By Jorge Martín
Monday, 01 December 2008
Venezuela: three trade union leaders killed, wave of counter-revolutionary threats and intimidationOn Thursday, November 27, in the evening, three trade union leaders were assassinated in Aragua, Venezuela. The International Marxist Tendency condemns these brutal killings of workers' leaders whose only crime was to stand firm in the defence of workers' interests against the intimidation and terrorism of the capitalist class. We call on the international workers' movement to mobilise against these killings and demand that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

Venezuelan elections: a victory for the PSUV, but a warning for the revolution Print E-mail
By Jorge Martín, Yonnie Moreno and William Sanabria
Thursday, 27 November 2008
Venezuelan elections: a victory for the PSUV, but a warning for the revolutionThe final results of the Venezuelan elections are now out. The Socialist United Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has won about 80% of all local councils and 17 out of the 22 governors that were up for election. However the loss of Miranda, Carabobo and the Metropolitan District of Caracas, all of them extremely important from the point of view of politics, economy and population, and the fact that the PSUV did not win Zulia is a serious warning for the revolution, which has to be added to the defeat of the constitutional reform referendum.

Venezuela: A first balance sheet of the elections Print E-mail

Venezuela: A first balance sheet of the electionsThe first results that have been issued of yesterday's local elections in Venezuela confirm that there is still widespread support for the Revolution, but in some areas tiredness is setting in and the Opposition, in spite of losing around 300,000 votes, has taken advantage of this. This is due to the delay in the revolution. The only conclusion revolutionaries can draw is that it is time to complete the revolution once and for all.

Venezuela: New clashes between revolution and counter-revolution are being prepared Print E-mail
By Patrick Larsen in Venezuela
Thursday, 30 October 2008
Venezuela: New clashes between revolution and counter-revolution are being preparedThe Bolivarian government still enjoys mass support. But the defeat in the constitutional referendum last December was a clear warning. After 10 years of revolution, the main problems facing the workers have not been solved. The masses that support Chávez are growing weary of seeing a lack of profound social changes and a lack of a clear perspective to complete the revolution. It is time to take firm action against the oligarchy.

On the one hand the revolutionary fervour of the youth who managed to block attempt to impose undemocratic Statutes on the organisation, but it also revealed a well-organised bureaucracy intent on stifling genuine debate. The youth of the CMR intervened in this debate, connecting well with the revolutionary rank and file.

Alan Woods in an interview with Argenpress, referring to the situation in Venezuela, explains that those who argue that we must wait for a better moment are wrong. Time is not on our side but on the side of the counterrevolution. It is not too soon, but very, very late. The December referendum was a warning that the masses are getting tired of endless delays, of endless parades and demonstrations, referendums and election campaigns. They demand action and they demand it now!

Venezuela: The UNT and factory committees - A Marxist analysis of revolutionary strategy Print E-mail
By Yonnie Moreno
Thursday, 22 May 2008
The question of setting up factory committees has been posed in Venezuela. Because some of those putting forward this idea belong to the reformist wing of the Bolivarian movement, the leadership of the UNT unions instead of promoting them have come out against them. Who pays the opposition students in Venezuela? Print E-mail
By Pablo Roldan and Mauro Vanetti
Thursday, 08 May 2008
Opposition students in Venezuela are depicted as poor victims of an authoritarian regime. The world media pick up on this and repeat the fairy tale until people start to believe it. But these students are such victims that they receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in the form of the "Milton Friedman Liberty Prize". Friedman's Chicago Boys were also advisers to Pinochet, no doubt also seen as a "victim" by these people.

On April 3, Chávez announced the nationalisation of the cement industry. This measure, which accompanies the nationalisation of a dairy plant in the Andean region and now the nationalisation of SIDOR, is clearly to be welcomed by revolutionaries and socialists. It will encourage the workers in other companies to struggle; it will make them more confident in raising their demands for nationalisation.
