Russia is second only to America in its number of billionaires, according to an annual list published by Forbes magazine. Some 87 billionaires call Russia home-up from 53 in 2007. Wealth is concentrated in Moscow (particularly in the Rublyovskoye Shosse area), and the capital now has more billionaires than any other city in the world. At the top of the Russian list is Oleg Deripaska, owner of Rusal, an aluminium giant, who is thought to be worth about $21 billion. Two friends of Vladimir Putin appeared on the list for the first time: Gennady Timchenko, an oil trader, and Yuri Kovalchuk, a co-owner of Bank Rossiya. |
