PTUDC Taxila/Wah Anti-war meeting 15.10.2001

An anti-war meeting was held by the PTUDC in this highly industrialised town. The topic was "The Present World Crisis and the role of the Working Class". The majority of those attending were trade unionists and political activists. Youth, students and women also participated.

As a part of countrywide mass protest compaign launched by the PTUDC against the imperialist aggression and fundamentalist terror, a public meeting was organized in Wah Cantt on 14 October 2001.

Wah Cantt is a small town, but it is a highly proletarian concentrated area. About 30,000 people work in the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, and some 15,000 plus work in the surrounding factories, such as HMC, HIT, Cement Factories, Glass Factories, and in other relatively small factories in and around the same area. It is hard to find any other area of similar size in Pakistan where there is such a huge concentration of proletarians who are able to interact with each other on a daily basis.

This meeting was held under the topic "The Present World Crisis and the role of the Working Class". About 60 people attended the meeting. The majority of them were trade unionists and political activists. Youth, students and women also participated. The meeting was opened and introduced by Comrade Kashif Nawaz. A revolutionary poem was recited by Comrade Shahid.

Comrade Lal Khan delivered the main speech explaining the root causes of the present world crisis. He emphasized the history of state terrorism perpetrated by US imperialism and how they were directly involved in the creation of monsters like Osama Bin Ladin and the Taliban. He explained the nature of this war and the need to convert this imperialist war into a class war. He stressed that the victory of the working class in this class war is the only way to end all wars. Capitalism can only offer wars and destruction - a future of barbarism. He said that history shows that after every war revolutions have erupted. This will happen again and we have to prepare the forces of revolutionary Marxism to be ready when a revolutionary upheaval breaks out. He appealed to the participants to take these ideas to every nook and corner of the city.

The meeting ended with an enthusiastic response from the audience. The mood was optimistic. This has enormously strengthened the base and support for the forces of revolutionary Marxism in this proletarian city of Taxila/Wah.

Comradely regards,
