New Labour in Britain has followed the same path as Lady Thatcher and Lord Major as far as income inequality is concerned, according to the Office for National Statistics. In the household income scale, the highest 10% improved its position against the lowest 10% during Thatcher's administration: they were earning three times more in 1979 and already by 1990 they were earning four times more. This gap has never narrowed so far, notwithstanding the change of the party in power. Even worse, according to the same source, the gap has taken on a racial and ethnic flavour, with minority groups having the highest priority when it comes to the capitalist Wheel of Fortune handing out the worst jobs.
