We have received the following report on the “All-Pakistan Labour Conference” which was held on December 27, 2004. More than 35 labour leaders and 450 participants representing different trade union federations met to debate and discuss the recent anti-labour laws passed by the Musharaf Regime as well as what the labour movement should do about them. On Thursday, March 17, Alan Woods, the editor of Marxist.com, delivered a speech to a meeting of 45 members of the National Assembly and the Senate in Committee Room number 5 in the National Assembly building, Islamabad. This is the first time that any Marxist intellectual has ever held such a meeting. The meeting was organised by the Marxist MP Manzoor Ahmed together with the Chief Whip of the PPP in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid.

At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, 23rd March 2005, the traffic in the centre of Lahore was brought to a standstill by a militant demonstration of workers and youth. This was organized by the Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign (PTUDC) and the Anti Labour Laws Workers' Action Committee, with the backing of The Struggle, the Pakistan Marxist Tendency.
