Denmark: The refuse collectors’ conflict - enough is enough!

Written by Reinout Bosch and Marie Frederiksen Thursday, 05 November 2009

Denmark: The refuse collectors’ conflict: enough is enough!A very militant strike of refuse collectors has broken out in Denmark, which has become a focal point of class struggle in the whole country. What the bosses are attempting to achieve in this strike is a major attack on trade union rights in general. The aim is to break the strike and then launch a wider attack on workers in other sectors. A lot is at stake for Danish workers.

Cynicism and American Politics

Written by Mark Rahman in the U.S. Thursday, 05 November 2009

Cynicism and American PoliticsCynicism is a very useful tool for those in power. Although it inherently expresses a sense of dissatisfaction, it offers nothing as a way out. The charade of the two-party system has done a lot of damage to American workers’ perception of politics in general, and created a situation where cynicism and apparent apathy is widespread. What is needed in the US is a party that represents working people. Such a party would go far in combatting the cynical and apathetic attitudes of many toward politics, as there would finally be a force led by workers in the interests of workers.

Written by Jorge Martín Wednesday, 04 November 2009

Honduras: agreement or farce?A lot of noise had been made about the so-called “reinstatement of Zelaya”, but is that what is really happening. Ireland: Walking the walk … The Lame Duck way

Written by Fightback Editorial Board Wednesday, 04 November 2009

Friday’s day of protests by the Public Sector Trade Unions is a hugely important day for the Trade Union and Labour Movement. It could mark a significant step in the struggle to turn back the Fianna Fáil and Green Party’s assault on the Public Sector and on the working class in general. But what is the background to the current impasse and can Cowen and Lenihan face down the massive opposition that will manifest itself throughout the country later this week?

Written by Gavin Jackson Tuesday, 03 November 2009

Britain: North-East Storm Warning! Photo by Thierry1498.While the leaders and lieutenants of capital continue their assault on the pay, conditions and jobs of workers everywhere, strikes have broken out sporadically across the UK, including in transport. As was the case with the bus drivers of Essex and Greater Manchester, in August the workers of GoNortheast in Washington in the North-East of England also walked out of pay talks after rejecting a pitiful offer of just 2% over 18 months.

The fate of the Chittagong Hill Tracts tribes of Bangladesh

Written by Jamil M. Iqbal Monday, 02 November 2009

The fate of the Chittagong Hill Tracts tribes of BangladeshIn breaking away from Pakistan, the founders of Bangladesh in 1971 proceeded top set up a “Bengali” state, but this ignored the fact that there were other peoples also living within the borders of the country. The tribes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts are an example of this. They have suffered terribly with tens of thousands being killed over the years, fighting back against national oppression.

El Salvador: A 20 años de la ofensiva general de 1989 - Debemos completar las tareas revolucionarias pendientes

Written by Ricardo Ayala Friday, 20 November 2009

Part of the intention of this article is to combat the kind of senseless anti-Americanism that one encounters all too frequently in left circles. Marxists are internationalists and do not take up a negative stance in relation to the people of any country. We stand for the unity of all working people against oppression and exploitation. What we oppose is not Americans, but American capitalism and American imperialism. The American people and above all the American working class have a great revolutionary tradition. Marxists understand that a united Ireland can only be achieved on a socialist basis. So long as capitalism dominates Ireland there will be division and strife. Only by such means can we build the revolutionary movement urgently needed to prevent a further descent into sectarian chaos and achie... Read More
