An interesting letter from a reader in China, who points out that the dominant mode of production in that country is now capitalism. He asks the question; “following the full market economy then how can we class the current leadership of China, what class are they supporting?” |

On Wednesday October 26, the regimes on both sides of the India-Pakistan border finally allowed three truckloads of relief goods to enter Pakistan from India. This is the third PTUDC solidarity caravan for Kashmir, and was organised jointly by MPs and PTUDC supporters in both India and Kashmir. |

The gruesome nature of the capitalist system is being exposed by the heinous acts of businessmen, who like vultures are poaching and scavenging on the miseries of the victims of the Kashmir earthquake. All the local bosses can think of is that rehabilitation will boost economic growth as more products are consumed in the effort to rebuild the area. |

A report on the Speech Chavez gave recently in Paris. Asked by the local mayor what was the “secret” behind his political success and resilience, Chavez explained that his power emanates from the mass movement, of the involvement of the mass of the people in the struggle for change. During his speech he also praised the work of the Hands Off Venezuela campaign and underlined the need for such international solidarity. |

The right to demonstrate, to strike, to trial by jury in Britain are all elementary civil liberties, yet most of them have already been whittled away. Now the so-called “war on terror” is being used to destroy what little is left. This assault on our democratic rights is not a secondary matter. The democracy afforded us by capitalism is restricted, but we can no more ignore the attacks launched on our political rights than we can attacks on our jobs, wages and conditions. |

In spite of being rich in oil Nigeria is in a state of collapse. Healthcare, education, transport, pensions and so on are all coming under attack. Unemployment is growing everywhere. An explosive mood is developing from below, while at the top the political leaders offer nothing but conferences, talk shops and so on. And yet it could be different, very different. It is in the hands of the leadership of the labour movement. |

Millions of people are facing starvation in Niger. Are we to believe that this is another “natural” disaster, as the media would like us to? The fact is that there is food available in the markets of Niger, but the people cannot afford to buy it. Again, profit comes before the lives of the poor. |

Hungarian translation of Hungary and the Crisis in the Communist Party by Ted Grant (November 1956). We are pleased to make available for the first time in Hungarian this Open Letter to the ranks of the Communist Party published in November 1956, shortly after the tragic events in Hungary. Both today's regime and the stalinists have attempted to bury the truth about the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. We hope that this translation helps the new generation of Hungarians to discover the truth. |

Today is the 200th anniversary of the battle that is associated with the name of one man, Horatio Nelson. He was considered a national hero, both in his own lifetime and in the Victorian period following his death. But should the working class celebrate the life of this man? We will examine his exploits and show them in a light that is not exactly what the present patriotic hullabaloo is designed to do. |

Divisions have clearly emerged between different wings of the Israeli ruling class. These are reflected within the Likud, the main party of the Israeli bourgeoisie. These divisions are important signals of something that is stirring deeper within Israeli society. The ruling class is divided because it can see two dangers on the horizon, the class struggle in Israel and intensified opposition from the Palestinian community. |
