Capitalism attempts to turn everything into private property, the air we breathe, the water we drink and even ideas. Attempts of capitalists to make money from “their” intellectual property are like the highway robbery of medieval aristocrats who levied tolls on traders and restricted the growth of commerce and prosperity. Today private property and the profit motive are the biggest threat to our enjoyment of new ideas, our progress and even our existence as a species. |

Many generous donations have been made to the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal that we launched immediately after the disaster hit. Thanks to these donations several camps have been set up and thousands of people have been treated and sheltered. Now the Fifth caravan has been hit by an unnatural disaster, the hands of the thieving Pakistani state! Please protest at this scandalous behaviour! |

The sacked Dewhirst workers in Morocco are building up support for their struggle. Messages from Spain, Uruguay, Belgium, the USA, Britain and Sweden have been a big morale booster for them. The conditions in the factory are atrocious. Please keep the solidarity and protest messages coming in. |

September witnessed an unprecedented wave of protest across the whole of Nigeria, with mass trade union rallies in all the major cities. The spark that set the movement in motion as the latest increase in the price of fuel, but the demands being raised, such as the call for the government to resign, and the mood displayed on the rallies all serve to underline that Nigeria is moving towards a revolutionary upheaval. An editorial statement from the Nigerian Marxist journal, the Workers’ Alternative. |

LASCO is an umbrella body that has emerged in Nigeria which purports to have a wider representation than the unions themselves. In reality it is a body with no powers and the top union bureaucrats simply hide behind it to defuse the movement whenever it erupts and then they put it to one side once this job is done. It is time to build action committees in all the workplaces, elected by the workers and recallable. |

On Tuesday over 500,000 Australian workers came out on demonstrations across the country to protest against the latest draconian anti-trade union laws, with 200,000 at the Melbourne rally. The mood on the rallies was very militant. The Australian working class is returning to its best traditions of struggle, and this is only the beginning. |

Lal Khan looks at the division of Kashmir as a result of the partition of the subcontinent. The resources of Kashmir have been ruthlessly exploited for the benefit of India and Pakistan. Kashmir has long been in the throes of turmoil, instability, and deprivation, and the people of Kashmir have long looked for a solution to the situation, and an end to the misery and oppression. |

A new Mexican edition of Reason in Revolt, Marxist Philosophy and Modern Science is coming out shortly. Here we provide a new introduction by Alan Woods, in which he looks at some of the more important scientific breakthroughs since the book was first published ten years ago. He also dedicates some words to the poverty of modern bourgeois philosophy which has sunk back to the level of subjective idealism. |

We urge you to support this group of Moroccan workers who have been sacked simply for standing up for their rights. The British clothing manufacturer Dewhirst, linked to Marks and Spencer, pays Moroccan workers a pittance. Send protest messages and make them see that workers around the world will not accept such brutal policies. |

A minority voted
for the new Iraqi constitution. Fighting has now erupted on the
Iraqi-Syrian border. The resistance is being strengthened, not
weakened. And now we have the revelations about the use of chemical
weapons by the US army. The Pax Americana is wallowing in
blood. This article was originally published in the Italian Marxist
journal, FalceMartello.

Shocking images have confirmed that
white phosphorous bombs were used during the US Army attack on
Fallujah last year, aimed at people directly, burning many of them
alive, including civilians, women and children. If anyone doubted the
real nature of the occupation of Iraq, now they have no excuse.

Last week the leader of the Histadrut, Amir Peretz ousted Shimon Peres from the leadership of the Israeli Labour Party. It was like a small earthquake in the political system of Israel, as Peretz has been promising to undo many of the cuts in the welfare state and has threatened to pull the Labour Party out of the coalition with the Likud.

The Swedish Marxists of the Socialisten
journal have sent us this appeal which is taken from the website of
the underground drivers’ trade union branch (www.klubb119.org).
It describes a very important trade union struggle in Sweden that
involves the rights of all trade union activists. Their next
demonstration/strike will take place on Friday, November 18, but the
struggle will continue after that. The union is asking for messages
of support.

Dramatic climate change in
recent years has led scientists to the conclusion that global warming
is the cause. This is bad news for the private owners of the $2trn
dollar oil, gas and natural gas industries. If serious action were
taken to deal with global warming, their profits would be in trouble.
That is why these big monopolies have spent millions on a campaign
designed to rubbish the global warming theory.
