In the face of mass demonstrations against the fraud in Haiti’s elections the Provisional Electoral Council of Haiti has been forced to declare René Préval the winner and the next president of Haiti. The masses have come out onto the streets in celebration, justifiably jubilant and euphoric at their victory. However, these elections have solved none of the problems the Haitian masses face, and the reactionary opposition has not been completely defeated. What is needed now is determination and vigilance against the forces of counter-revolution. |

In January at a meeting of the International Committee of the International Marxist Tendency Alan Woods gave a lead off on World Perspectives, in which he analysed the unfolding class struggle on an international scale, laying special emphasis on the events taking place in Latin America. After a long period of relative lull in the class struggle workers everywhere have started to move once more. The task is to provide this movement with the necessary revolutionary leadership. The present text – in five parts – is based on Alan Woods’ speech. In Part One of his speech he deals with the method of Marxism, the relationship of the economic cycle to the class struggle and the state of the US economy. |

After the devastating earthquake of October 8, which turned three districts of Kashmir into rubble, and despite the failure of the state in the rescue and rehabilitation work and the bitter hardships of the freezing winter, life in the Himalayan valley is beginning to return to normal. The real struggle for freedom and emancipation, the class struggle, is once again on the order of the day. In light of this the Marxists in Kashmir have launched a week of activities for February 11 to 18. |

After the scandalous attack by Tony Blair last week on the Venezuelan government and Hugo Chavez in particular, an Early Day Motion, number 1644, on "Developments in Venezuela" has been put down and so far signed by 72 MPs. The motion recognises the achievements of Venezuela in the recent period and calls on the British Parliament to support Chavez. |

The Danish government rest on the support of extreme right-wing parties. The government has promoted a series of anti-working class legislation, while hiding behind racist propaganda, including blatant anti-Islamic rhetoric. Denmark is not a fairy tale country but one where the mailed fist of capital is being used against the workers. |

Mass demonstrations have erupted in Haiti over the manipulation of the results of last week's election. René Préval, the front runner, and the choice of the overwhelming majority of the Haitian people, has seen his percentage of the votes fall from as high as 65% to 48%, just under the 50% needed to avoid a run off. The vote tallies are clearly being manipulated and the Haitian people have had enough.

Last week the Labour Party suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of the Liberals, losing half its votes in the Dunfermline and West Fife seat in Scotland. This is the first time Labour have lost a seat to the Liberals in Scotland since 1945! This is another symptom of the process taking place in Britain. Blair can no longer win elections. The scene is set for big changes. |
