Last week’s attack by the Israeli
army on the prison in Jericho highlights the growing impasse in
Israeli/Palestinian politics. Olmert, the interim leader of Sharon’s
Kadima party is using the attack to boost his fortunes in the
upcoming Israeli elections. At the same time Abu Mazen, the “friend”
of the West is being exposed.

Venezuela’s Bolivarian
Revolution was on the minds of many at the large anti-war
demonstration this weekend in London. Hands off Venezuela
supporters had a stall with a large banner, and at the stall they sold
books, pamphlets, DVDs and distributed leaflets advertising a meeting
which was held in a pub near Trafalgar Square after the rally.

As the auto workers' struggle with the Big Three U.S. auto makers continues, the business pages of the nation's newspapers have been hit with troubling news about the state of the world's largest auto manufacturer, General Motors. While GM's parts subsidiary, Delphi has filed for bankruptcy, GM itself has seen a huge loss in profitability, sales and its stock tumble to the floor. |

"The Iraq War disaster, in which thousands upon housands of Iraqis and Americans have been killed, wounded, tortured, and maimed will continue without end until we, the American working class stop it. After all, foreign policy is the continuation of domestic policy: the “War on Terror” is nothing but a war on workers and the poor at home and abroad. We are the only force on the planet that can end this madness once and for all." A Workers' International League pamphlet.

France is in the
middle of its second youth revolt in the span of just a few months
time. Students and workers all across France are mobilising against
the proposed First Employment Contract. A national demonstration will
be held this weekend against the proposed legislation, and some 1 to
1.5 million people are expected to turn out. The stage is being set
for a decisive battle between the working class and the Villepin
government.

In the morning hours of
Saturday, March 11, Slobodan Milosevic, was found dead in his prison
cell at the Hague. With his death, the bourgeois media began once
again to dig through the recent history of the Balkans in an attempt
to make sense of the break-up of former Yugoslavia. But what was the
role played by Milosevic, and what is the feeling over his death in
Serbia?

We received this brief report by the Workers' Action Committee (Iran) on a recent strike at the Iran Khodro car plant in Tehran. The production line in most halls came to a
halt and, with the slogan "Going on strike is the only way to act", the
strike took over the whole plant.

In February the Venezuelan province of Ciudad Bolivar was the setting for a number of remarkable struggles on the part of the youth, the working class and the organised communities. In one of them, a fight against a rise in the prices of bus tickets, masses of youth went so far as to seize the buildings of the local parliament. Ronny Pante and Carlos Rondón, leaders of the local student movement, recount what happened. |

The Campbell government is planning a major offensive on the rights of working people. Over the past five years, each attack of the government has been met with stiff resistance. Each battle has taken on an increasingly militant character. With most public sector contracts ending this month, the stage is set for a decisive battle. |
