Today we spoke with Yossi Schwartz in Haifa, one of the cities
hit by Hizbollah rockets. Below we are providing the text of a conversation
with him in which he describes the mood in the country and looks at the
possible scenario that may unfold over the next few days.

One and a half million people, according to the organisers,
marched on Sunday, July 16th to protest against electoral fraud in the Mexican
presidential elections of July 2nd. Even according to the Mexican DF police, which put the figure of those on the
march at 1.1 million, this was one of the largest demonstrations in Mexican
history.

fraude.

The mood in Mexico is becoming angrier as more
evidence is presented of the electoral fraud against PRD candidate Andres
Manuel Lopez Obrador. The march that started all over the country yesterday is expected to
meet today in five locations, Toluca, Querétaro, Puebla, Hidalgo and Cuernavaca,
from which the demonstrators will make their way to the massive march on Sunday in Mexico City.

We have long stated that there is no fundamental difference between Blair
and Brown. That is why we welcome the decision of John McDonnell, Labour MP, to
stand for the leadership as the candidate of the left. We also reproduce John McDonnell's full statement on his stand.

The Israeli ruling class is using war in an attempt to solve
its problems. They now risk opening up three fronts, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.
It is a reflection of the deep crisis afflicting Israeli capitalism and Israeli
society. Raising the socialist perspective is an urgent task in the whole
region, if we want to avert the terrible barbarism that the ruling class is
unleashing.

We received this
article yesterday evening. It was written as the situation between Israel and Lebanon was escalating. The Israeli
ruling class has decided on war to "solve" its problems. In reality it is
opening up even greater problems destabilising the situation even further. The
crisis of Israeli capitalism is dragging the peoples of the region to
fratricidal war.

These are convulsive and testing times. After more than
three decades, history is once again on the move. Events have acquired a
ferocious velocity. People are at the same time spectators and victims of this
brutalizing capitalism. The economies grow but the living standards of the
masses fall. The masses are yearning for change.

There is a lot of hype in the media about India’s booming
economy. The truth is that this affects a small minority of the 1.2 billion
population. Some 300 million Indians survive on less than $1 a day. In this
situation there is revolutionary ferment taking place that will shake India to its
foundation.
