Ukrainian Workers Assemble to Oppose Government Attacks on Labour Laws

The government of Ukraine has proposed further attacks on Ukrainian workers in the form of sweeping changes to labour laws that were set to be voted on in parliament on May 25th. The Ukrainian labour unions and activists did not waste time, responding with demonstrations against the legislation on May 21st.
Venezuela: Foiled assassination plot against trade union leader

On Monday, May 21, an armed person entered the EFE ice cream factory (part of the POLAR group) in Caracas and asked to see Abraham Rivas, the main trade union leader and a member of the Marxist tendency Lucha de Clases. When confronted about his suspicious behaviour by Abraham and other workers, he was found to be carrying a gun. He was also found to be carrying detailed personal information about comrade Abraham, including his picture, home address, the names of his children and even a photocopy of his company ID card.
An illegal demonstration of 250,000 shakes Quebec society

Tuesday, May 22nd saw the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history. Between 250,000 and 350,000 youth and workers came out onto the streets of Montreal and openly defied the emergency law that requires police approval of protest routes eight hours in advance. A widely publicized “official route” was broken; the crowd turned away, following an unannounced path.

Nowhere is the Transitional Programme more relevant than in Indonesia – a country that occupies a very important place in the perspectives for world revolution. Its working class has a rich revolutionary tradition, which still survives though it was drowned in blood in 1965.
Netherlands: Paper edition of Vonk is out!

The Dutch comrades of Vonk have now published the first edition of their paper in May. This is a big step forward for the IMT in the Netherlands.
