After occupying Sanitarios Maracay, the workers have created new organisational forms for the running of the factory. The Assembly of workers is the highest decision making body, and has elected a 21-member Factory Committee, who are subject to the right of recall at any time by the Assembly, to organise production at the plant. The workers have also held meetings with workers from occupied factories in Brazil and Venezuela in order to learn from the experiences of other workers in the occupied factory movement.

The central thesis of this book from beginning
to end is the following: that the Bolivarian Revolution can only succeed if it
goes beyond the boundaries of capitalist private property, expropriating the
oligarchy and transforming itself into a socialist revolution. The Revolution
has begun, but it is not finished. The old state apparatus is still
largely intact and a number of key economic levers (including the banks and the
land) remain in the hands of the Venezuelan oligarchy.

The Fundación Federico Engels has intervened for the first time at the
Caracas Book Fair. There is a thirst for Marxist ideas, which is revealed by
the number buying material and stopping for discussions.

The
campaign for Venezuela's
presidential election on December 3rd is already well under way. But this is
far from a normal election. On December 3rd what is really at stake is the
future of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Part Four of Venezuelan perspectives
analyses the stage of the revolution we are passing through. It is important
that we understand the processes at work, draw out their main tendencies and
draw up perspectives. Our tactics and work in the revolutionary movement must
be determined on these perspectives. By looking at the role played by Chavez,
the developments in the Bolivarian movement, we can adopt the necessary tactics
to win the masses to the programme of Marxism.

FRETECO will be holding its second national
conference on October 13-14. It is not an accident that this meeting is taking
place just a few weeks before a major turning point in the Bolivarian
revolution: the presidential elections of December 3. This conference
represents a major development in the role the organised workers are playing in
the revolutionary process.

Just released! A meticulously researched examination
of the role of the AFL-CIO in the April 2002 coup against the
democratically-elected government of Hugo Chavez. In light of this information,
labor activists in the U.S. and around the world should multiply the pressure on
the AFL-CIO to end its ties with the NED and to pursue genuine worker to worker
solidarity with the workers of Venezuela and the world. Read the article on the Hands off Venezuela site.
