Silva Bueno, CIPLA representative in Venezuela,
and an advisor to the workers of Sanitarios Maracay, was interviewed at the
Pan-American Gathering of Occupied Factories in Joinville, Brazil.
Here he offers his insight into the situation in the occupied factory and his
opinion on the revolution as a whole.

After the massive electoral victory on December 3, Chavez
has put a big emphasis on the need to turn towards socialism. As part of this
he is proposing a new party, built from the bottom up, to bypass the
bureaucracy.

We publish a resolution addressed to President Chavez and
voted by the recent Pan-American gathering in Joinville, Brazil.
It calls on Chavez to expropriate the Sanitarios Maracay factory, to
nationalise it under workers’ control.

"The demonstration was solidly proletarian in
character, many decorated with their red shirts, caps and banners. It was very noticeable that many protesters were
women and children, who had come to appeal to the President with their
home-made banners, placards and posters of the President himself." Another report of the demonstration by Rob Sewell in Caracas.

One thousand people marched yesterday through the
main streets of Caracas, in what was the largest
demonstration in favour of the expropriation of an occupied factory that has
ever taken place in Venezuela.
This was truly an historic march. It was the real and
genuine spirit of the working class taking over the streets of Caracas and pointing the way the revolution
must advance.

"Election Day in Caracas went by in a whir of activity, reports, discussions,
neighborhoods visited, fireworks and rain. Since then, we’ve had a chance to sit
back and discuss the day’s events and come to some general
conclusions." Read John Peterson's new blog entry on the Hands Off Venezuela site or on the HoV blog.

The workers of Sanitarios Maracay are in the
forefront of the struggle for workers’ control, nationalisation and socialism
in Venezuela.
Unfortunately one wing of the UNT led by Maspero is supporting a yellow union
in the company, and another wing led by Chirino recently came up with the idea
of finding another capitalist to run the factory. This is an appeal to these
UNT leaders to rethink their positions and rally round the workers in struggle.

The victory in the Venezuelan elections has shifted the
balance of forces massively in favour of the workers and poor. The
counter-revolution has had to change tactic and formally “accept defeat”. To
believe they have now become “democratic” is the most dangerous thing for
the revolution. They are only playing for time before they strike again. Now is
the time to complete the revolution by expropriating the capitalists.

Rosales,
the majority of the counterrevolutionary leaders and imperialism were
confronted with the choice of accepting the victory of Chavez or to denounce alleged fraud and call for a struggle they know they
cannot win. They resorted to a halfway position.

Shortly after the polling stations closed,
Chavez came out onto the balcony to speak to the masses celebrating a historic
victory. He stressed that the people had voted for "Venezuelan Socialism". The
situation could not be more favourable for the completion of the revolution. We
have entered a decisive stage.

The elections on December 3 are decisive for the
future of the revolution. The historic mobilisation on Sunday, November 26
showed the unequivocal willingness of the youth, the workers, peasants and the
immense majority of the Venezuelan people to re-elect President Chavez, defend
the revolution and to radicalise it after the elections. In
reality, it was not a march, as it was not possible to march with so many
people on the streets! It was an entire people who decided to dress in red and
take the streets to tell the imperialists and the oligarchy... if you dare you
will lose.

There is no doubt that Chavez will win Sunday's
election. What is also clear is that the reactionary opposition will not accept
the result of the vote. They are preparing to destabilise the country. The only
way of putting an end to this is by going on the offensive and completing the
revolution, expropriating the big capitalists and landlords, by carrying out
the socialist revolution.

In addition to the interview in Ultimas
Noticias, published in Marxist.com on Monday, Alan Woods was also
interviewed in Temas, the weekly paper with the biggest readership in
Venezuela, which is widely followed by Bolivarian activists in particular. On
the front page of the 17-23 November edition the paper announced: "Woods
challenges [Heinz] Dietrich to a public debate". We reproduce below the English
translation of the interview, which filled two and a half pages of the paper.

The struggle at Sanitarios Maracay is not simply a struggle to save 800 jobs, it is a struggle that can become an example and
a stimulus for the whole of the working class and re-open the way for
expropriations at a higher level. It is the struggle to save the revolution
from the sabotage of the employers and the bureaucracy, so that it reaches its
conclusions and solves once and for all the problems of the masses.
