Iran: National teachers' strike for wage parity with other government workersThe following is a statement posted on the Iranian Teachers’ Trade Association’s website on 27 April 2009.

According to the many reports from teachers throughout the country, today the second action point of the Teachers’ Trade Association’s manifesto was put into action in a widespread and visible way.

In accordance with this action point, the honourable teachers turned up at school but refused to go to the classrooms. Various areas of Tehran, Eslamshahr, Karaj, Pakdasht, Divandoreh, Koohdasht, Khomeini Shahr and Miandoab, as well as the provinces of Kermanshah, Yazd, Esfahan, Fars, Khorasan, Kordestan, Lorestan, Bushehr, Ardabil, East Azerbaijan, Hamadan and parts of Hormozgan and so on, are among those that have so far reported that this point has been put into action.

The Teachers’ Trade Association, as well as thanking these dear teachers, expects that point three [not turning up for work] will be put into action. We believe that with solidarity and unity we can achieve our just demands.
