If any ordinary worker earns more money his income tax automatically goes up. There's no way of escaping it. But if you have a top job with the state things are different. We aren't referring here to civil servants who are presently struggling to get a wage increase that matches inflation. No, we're talking about a job right at the top! If you haven't guessed it, we'll tell you. It's Prince Charles!
And how has His Highness managed such a miracle? Easy! He "off-set" his tax payments to the Inland Revenue by making a series of "green purchases." Now there's a nice way of doing it! You cut your taxes but you have a clean "green" conscience. He bought himself a converter for his Aston Martin so that it can run on biofuel. Why waste agricultural produce on people who can't afford it? Better to stick it in your Royal Highness's fuel tank. Oh, and it wasn't just his Austin Martin. He also converted his Jaguars, Audis and Range Rovers to run on biodiesel... made from used cooking oil. He also installed woodchip boilers in his home.
All this is part of Prince Charles' battle against "climate change". With all the changes he has introduced he claims his "household" has reduced CO2 emissions by 18% over the previous year. How much this humble household actually emits in absolute terms compared to any ordinary working class family we are not told.
Thanks to all this concern for the environment his tax bill was reduced. His income actually increased by 7 per cent to £16.273million, while his net profits grew by £360,000 to £8.276million. No problems with keeping his wage packet within the government's 2.5% limit! Clearly he must have a better union leadership than your average PCS member.
