Newcastle Marxists: Labour and Automation

Venue: BTSC G.36, Newcastle University

This week, we will be discussing automation and its implications for labour under capitalism vs. under socialism.

“Like every other instrument for increasing the productivity of labour, machinery is intended to cheapen commodities and, by shortening the part of the working day in which the worker works for himself, to lengthen the other part, the part he gives to the capitalist for nothing. The machine is a means for producing surplus-value.”-Karl Marx, Capital

This week, the meeting will take place in the Barbara Strang Teaching Centre in room G.36. This is located on the Newcastle University main campus accross from the RVI.
