Caracas, Jan 27(PL)- The recovery of socialism, as a tool of current social processes, constitutes a common feature of debate in the Sixth World Social Forum.

More than 70,000 delegates from about fifty countries have gathered in Caracas Jan 24-29 to discuss current social processes from various perspectives, in which, despite their diversity, a rejection of the capitalist system prevails.

In the opinion of Nobel Economy prize nominee, Egyptian Samir Amin, socialism must become a practical tool of popular social movements vis a vis inequalities caused by the neoliberal system.

Speaking at the forum on Hegemony, neoliberal governability, and social movements, the Egyptian economist pleaded for the union of all peoples of the South in a common front based on solidarity rather than on neoliberalism-proposed competition.

Coordinator of the National Workers Union of Venezuela Marcelo Maspero agreed, saying that the current role of unions in her country is to support the government of President Hugo Chavez, who proposed to advance toward socialism.

Maspero told Prensa Latina it was necessary to deepen the Venezuelan revolutionary process to reach socialism, as part of efforts to wipe out exclusion.

A statement by the International Marxist Current, founded by Marxist theoreticians Ted Grant and Alan Woods, read that in view of the worsening general crisis of capitalism, a quest for an alternative to the capitalist system has become necessary.

The document, which is circulating among participants in the WSF, indicates that a better world without misery and exploitation, where human beings can be well-off and live in peace and harmony, is possible.
