Twenty-one students have been arrested in five cities across Iran. The following is a translation of a newsletter issued in Shiraz and later posted on the blog of the revolutionary students of Kermanshah.

"Shiraz newsletter: With the arrest of two more students in Tabriz the number of arrested students this summer reached 21. This shows the increased pressure on students during the summer holidays and the security authorities' intention for a widespread encounter with the students' movement and to stop its protest process in the new academic year by jailing and excluding the critical forces in the universities.

"On the eve of Monday 21 July, Information Ministry agents in Tabriz raided the home of two students, Peyman Gholami (a students studying electricity) and Ali Abdollahzadeh (medical engineering), and arrested them. With their arrests the number of arrested students reached 21. They are:

"In Tehran: Mohammad Hashemi, Bahareh Hedayat, Salman Sima, Mehdi Khodaii and Majid Assadi.

"In Mashhad: Farzam Elahiparast, Farzad Hassanzadeh, Mohammad Zeratai, Ashkan Arashian, Mojtaba Amadpoor, and Ali Gholizadeh.

"In Tabriz: Dariush Hatami, Aidin Khajehi, Faraz Zehtabi, Sajad Radmehr, Peyman Gholami and Ali Abdollahzadeh.

"In Zanjan: Payam Shakiba, Arash Raiji and Hassan Jenidi.

"Ardabil: Vodood Assadi."
