Tibet erupted in ethnic based rioting over the past few
days. Undoubtedly there is some outside interference, but this alone cannot
explain what is going on. At the root of the problem is the uneven spread of
wealth, which has been made worse by the introduction of market economics,
compounding the feeling of national oppression of the Tibetans.

The Berlin Transport
Company (BVG) has been paralysed by a long and militant strike of the drivers
and the maintenance and administration workers. After years of concessions and
backsliding by the unions the workers have said they have had enough.

Last
November 6 in the evening, on the eve of another anniversary of the
October Revolution, around five hundred young Cubans gathered to
celebrate the occasion. Still, those who find this piece of news
unlikely or perplexing, regardless of what side they’re on, should make
an extra reading for good measure: that’s right, Cuban youths hailed the
Revolution.

Last month 100,000 American private sector workers lost their jobs. This is
the third monthly rise in the unemployment figures in a row. Everything
indicates that the USA is now in recession. As it is the biggest
single market in the world, this will inevitably have a big impact on the
rest of the world.

Last Thursday it
was Carlyle Capital Corporation. On Friday it was the turn of Bear Stearns, the
fifth largest bank in the USA.
The American Central Bank, the Fed, is due to meet this week to talk about
interest rates. Most likely they will cut them again. The trouble is, the more
they slash rates the more people can smell the fear.

Republication of the article is timely. In 2007 the sub-prime mortgage
bubble finally burst. The financial crisis has already had a knock-on effect on
the banks through the credit crunch. The capitalist world stands on the
threshold of recession.

On March 14 the Venezuelan National Guard arrested and
injured several SIDOR workers. The workers at SIDOR are demanding the
nationalisation of the factory under workers' control. The Minister of Labour
instead of listening to the workers is trying to break the strike, thereby
undermining the confidence of the workers in the government.

Last Sunday's first round in
the French local elections confirmed a widespread shift to the left, with
Sarkozy losing significant support. The Socialist Party did well, as did forces
that stand to its left. Here we wish to highlight the Marxist candidates
standing for the PCF in the area around Toulouse,
who significantly boosted the party's vote.

In February the 13th National Congress of
Militante-Mexico took place, with 150 comrades taking part. After a period of
intense activity over the past two years, the mood at the congress was one of
enormous confidence and enthusiasm, which is reflected in the report we provide
here.

In February five members of the IRSP were brought before a
court in Dublin,
a clear case of state harassment. It is an attempt to silence any left
criticism within the Republican movement. We publish here three articles
explaining what is behind all this and we call on all our supporters to support
these comrades.
