After years
of so-called consensus politics the Belgian workers have had enough of longer
hours, cuts in welfare, speed-ups and they are coming out tomorrow in a massive
general strike. The mood is one of bitter anger and determination to win.

In the last five
years, gas prices in Canada have soared from about 65-cents per litre to
over $1.10. This price hike hits the
working class hardest. While the right
wing are trying to blame taxes for the increase, the majority of Canadians see
that corporate super-profits are the real culprit. In a recent
poll, 49% of Canadians (and 67% of Quebecers) support nationalizing the oil
industry. |

The
Conservative Austrian government has been introducing severe cuts in spending on
education, reducing university places, introducing fees and so on. This coming
Friday (October 7) the government will get a taste of the students’ anger.
Action committees have sprung up and called a day of action.

A series of very successful rallies have been taking place all over Nigeria
against the fuel price hike. Here we provide the pdf format of the article
we published earlier, Nigeria: Endless fuel price hikes. This was widely
distributed at the Lagos rally, and we are making it available as a PDF file for anyone to
print out. |

The last few weeks have seen great steps forward for the Venezuela
solidarity movement in Canada. Most notably, after HOV gained the
support of the Alberta Federation of Labour, the following resolution
was passed at the Alberta NDP Convention. |

The Executive Council of the Alberta Federation of Labour has come out
in support of the Hands Off Venezuela (HOV) campaign in Canada. Here is the letter
they are circulating to all their local union presidents urging them to
endorse and support HOV. This is a huge step forward for the solidarity
campaign in Canada. |

Parliamentary elections took place in Poland on
September 25. The victory of the right wing is a direct consequence of the pro-capitalist
policies of the outgoing Democratic Left Alliance government. The vote is against
those policies rather than for the right wing.

The idea that Brown
has been secretly opposed to privatisation, to the war in Iraq, to the Labour
government’s assault on civil liberties ‑ but keeping quiet through ‘loyalty’
(to his career that is, not to the Labour Party or working class Labour voters)
‑ is patently absurd. Both should go. |

Für eine breite Solidaritätskampagne mit der iranischen
ArbeiterInnenbewegung.

On Thursday 8 September, Ukrainian President Viktor
Yuschenko fired Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko and her cabinet. After all the
hype of the “orange revolution” it is business as usual in the degenerate world
of Ukrainian politics, a den of thieves who have a flair for stabbing each
other in the back. |

The
tragedy of the Ukrainian workers is that all the parties, including the
Socialist and Communist Parties, have links with business groups, and are the
mouthpieces for these business interests. This article, originally written in
Russian in February, gives some useful background information to what is
happening now in the Ukraine. |

This is the leaflet, in PDF format, which La

management in Venezuela as an example of how to fight against mass redundancies
and closures taking place in France. |

The 2005 Labour Party
Conference marks a significant shift in the situation in Britain. It deserves careful study by Marxists and by every
trade union and Labour activist. It was chiefly marked by a sharp conflict
between the Party leadership and the trade unions |
